Profile: Mace Windu
Cling to the past, a Jedi cannot –Yoda

Jedi Master Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson)
Mace Windu
Prior to the Clone Wars Novel, Shatterpoint, very little was known of the origins of Jedi Master Mace Windu other being a prominent figure in the Jedi Council and second only to Yoda in lightsaber combat. After some research, it was also established that Mace Windu was in the initial treatments of the Star Wars drafts but was eventually removed from the final script.
Star Wars: Shatterpoint (A Clone Wars Novel)
Shatterpoint takes place not long after the events on Geonosis wherein the story’s protagonist, an unaided Mace Windu, must journey back to his homeworld of Haruun Kal in order to investigate the disappearance of his fellow Council member and former Padawan Depa Billaba.

Origins
While setting the stage for his novel, Stover (2003) describes the inhabitants of Haruun Kal as Korunnai (uplanders) or Korun as force-sensitive beings. Jedi anthropologists discovered them during one of their expeditions and determined that they were ancestors of Jedi, who a thousand years earlier, were stranded on the planet after being unable to recover from an emergency landing.
Mace Windu was an orphaned infant given to these Jedi anthropologists in order to be “trained in the force in order for the Force talents of the Korunnai to once again serve the peace in the galaxy.”
Stover (2003) describes Windu to be, “Lean. Driven. Intense (No one has seen him smile for 10 years). Radiating intellect and unconquerable will.” His stature, voice, and reputation can also make him an intimidating figure. Mace Windu took his place in the Jedi Council prior to his 30th birthday and has served the Order for more than 20 years until his death at the end of the Clone Wars.

Skills
Master Windu was also established as the creator of the VII form of lightsaber combat known as Vaapad. Yoda described Vaapad as “a predator of Sarapin” but also as the nickname given by students to one of the most powerful and lethal forms of lightsaber combat. It is a dangerous discipline that only one other Jedi has mastered apart from Windu—Depa Billaba.
Another heightened Jedi skill that Mace Windu is said to possess is the ability to use the Force in order to “see shatterpoints” or the ability to easily manipulate the Force in order to determine the “strengths and weaknesses, hidden flaws and unexpected uses” or objects or people.
